Preview 28th Feb Peepshow.
After a rip-roaring, sell-out debut last November, Peepshow returns on Saturday 28th February to the Bullingdon, Cowley Road, Oxford, already being touted in the local music press as "the most invigorating and promising addition to the Oxford music scene for some time," and drawing comparisons with quality nights such as Brighton's Phonic Hoop and This! at Bar Rhumba.
Things are set to get even better this time around, with one of the UK's most exciting emerging dance acts Boomclick taking to the Peepshow stage, and German master Ulrich Schnauss completing a live line-up we can scarcely believe ourselves. February also sees our first guest DJ at Peepshow, and we are very pleased to bring you the wonderfully indescribable Nettie for your listening pleasure.
Hailing from Berlin, Ulrich Schnauss has been described as an "ambient J.S. Bach" and is a true master of his craft. His debut album 'Far Away Trains Passing By' is already regarded as a classic, whilst the follow up 'A Strangely Isolated Place' further demonstrated this man's incredible talent.
His beautiful music is a fusion of electronica made with indie sensibilities, resulting in spine-tingling soundscapes, and epic, soaring melodies which inspire the soul. He cites Oxford's own Ride as an influence, and it is an absolute joy for us to have Ulrich to play at Peepshow, on one of only three dates on this trip to the UK.
So the ladies say, Boomclick can always be relied on to perform, and it seems their unique blend of leftfield rock, funk and dub with rude dancefloor beats never fails to delight us blokes either. Comprising of one very tall bloke and two slightly shorter ones, with vocals from the honey-throated Rosa, the self proclaimed "boxcar beatniks" release their second single 'Follow Love' on Rob Da Bank's Sunday Best label in February, and with an album due in 2004, this year is sure to be the year that greatness comes calling for South London's finest. Catch them whilst you can at Peepshow.
Our guest DJ Nettie continues the international flavour of Peepshow coming, as she does, from Denmark. After playing gigs as prestigious as the Big Chill festival at Eastnor Castle Deer Park, you can expect to hear a quality selection from the great Dane, as she takes us on a unique musical journey in her own inimitable way. With genre no object, expect the unexpected as she concentrates, as she herself tells us, on "a little bit of storytelling."
Resident DJ alanM will again warm things up with a cosmopolitan blend of electronica, deep house and down tempo techno, with Peepshow Paddy again closing the evening's entertainments with another mix of everything from hip hop to house, disco to drum'n'bass, samba to soul and beyond to keep you dancing until home time.
As always, the music will be accompanied throughout the evening by incredible visuals provided by some of the country's leading VJs. Joining our busy resident Myogenic for the February Peepshow, will be Nickin of London based VJ crew We Make Telly and Birmingham's Leolo, one half of Chromatouch.
Nickin comes straight to us from his residency at SoxaN, and at Peepshow will be continuing his fine work providing the visual backdrop for Boomclick. Leolo is a resident of Birmingham's fastest up and coming night, Jigsaw Music, which has already been hailed as one of the country's best nights out in the Guardian.
We very much look forward to seeing you at the February Peepshow. Last time out capacity was reached well before the pubs closed, and stayed that way for the duration of the night. With such a cracking line-up this time around, and our first live act taking to the stage at 10pm, we stongly advise that you to get there early to avoid disappointment.
Door 8-2am £7/£6 with flyer The Bullingdon, Cowley Road, Oxford.
