Preview 24th April Peepshow.

Well it's nearly that time again already, with the third Peepshow taking place on April 24th, at the Bullingdon, Cowley Road, Oxford. After props last time out from BBC Oxford, and the Guardian - who listed us in the Guide as the best club night in the country - we're following up with what is undoubtedly our funkiest musical line-up yet, and with visuals by three VJs so talented I'm slightly worried the screens might explode!

Needless to say, we are very excited about it.And so taking our cue from some of the other types of Peepshow that may occur in the vicinity, there will be two threesomes to entertain you onstage with some full on, live funking action. Aural pleasure indeed - don't say we don't spoil you! First up is Oxford's own The Second Whorl, who will be followed by our live headline act, Mr Güder, a band whose drummer is also our guest DJ for the evening, namely the very talented Dr Rubberfunk.

Who are we to argue with the taste of DJs as renowned as Mr Scruff, Norman Jay, Groove Armada, Ashley Beedle, Quantic, Freddy Fresh, and yes, even the mighty Peepshow Paddy eh? Well no-one really, apart from maybe with that Peepshow Paddy chancer, but all of the above and more have all been caning the brilliant music made by Dr Rubberfunk and his live raw-funk outfit Mr Güder. Dr Rubberfunk's debut album The First Cut was released earlier this month to rave reviews in the press, and their set will include tunes from this along with some classic Mr Güder funk workouts. Already established in clubs like The Social in London's West End, and having played at MTV's Terminator 3 party at Pierre Cardin's villa during the Cannes Film Festival last year, if the Bully has already taken a few poundings with Peepshow, then it had better brace itself, because Mr Güder are sure to rock the place like it’s never been rocked before.

Ever since their fourteen track demo landed on the doormat at Peepshow Towers late last year, the music of The Second Whorl has rarely left the stereo. This was apparently just a CD of unfinished ideas, but if I'd had half this many brilliant ideas, I'd be a Nobel Prize winner. It seems this incredibly gifted trio are able to produce anything they put their musical minds to with ease, be it nu-jazz, techy house, down tempo loungecore, or 70s spy-funk, you can guarantee it'll be damn funky. One of them toured the world twice with The Streets, their debut single 'Drop The Bomb' was released recently on Red Salamander Records, and anyone lucky enough to catch them at their low key Peepshow warm up gig at the Cricketers Arms last month will know just what a treat we're in for when The Second Whorl debut at Peepshow.

And if that wasn't enough, we are fortunate enough to have Dr Rubberfunk himself grace the Peepshow decks before the bands take to the stage. As well as producing great music, this is a man who has been DJing in clubs around the country for over a decade, alongside amongst others, Gilles Peterson, Norman Cook, Ross Allen, Andy Smith, James Lavelle, and David Holmes, had residencies in clubs across London including Ministry of Sound, and Home.

He won Muzik magazine's respected Bedroom Bedlam competition in October 1998, and has had various guest mixes on Ninja Tune's Solid Steel - we can't wait to hear him play at Peepshow.
As ever, warming up before and between our guests will be resident DJ alanM with a cosmopolitan blend of electronica, deep house and down tempo techno, with Peepshow Paddy again closing the evening's shenanigans with another mix of everything from hip hop to house, disco to drum n bass, samba to soul and beyond.

Alongside resident VJ Myogenic this time out will be two of most talented men in the VJing business. We are pleased to have Amukidi join us once again after playing at the first Peepshow back in November, and to present to you for his first outing with us, The Ombudsman. Both are residents at The Big Chill, at whose festival our own Myogenic has also been booked to play this year. And appropriately, as this is our third and indeed our final threesome, showing some moving images that you really won't be able to take your eyes off, the visuals are sure to be more spectacular than ever at April's Peepshow.

So, all set for another belter then, and with Dr Rubberfunk DJing from nine o'clock, and after sellouts at both previous Peepshows, we thouroughly recommend arriving early to avoid disappointment. See you there!
