Preview June 19th Peepshow.
The decks make their debut onstage at Peepshow with both guest live acts mixing DJing with live music. Ballistic breakbeat and future funkin' house from the Breakin Even crew, and hip hop breaks and turntablism with the blues from the jazzy Belleruche.
The Breakin Even collective formed four years ago, and use a live pa with added percussion rhythms and fantastic vocals to accompany the muliti-talented DJ and composer Rob Savage on decks. In only the past three months they have played with Tom Middleton, Phil Hartnoll, Chris Coco, Lol Hammond and Kris Needs whilst tweaking the frequencies with their acclaimed club nights, packing out the Fez Club in Reading on a monthly basis.
Made up of turntablist wizard (though he wouldn’t admit it) DJ Modest cutting up hip hop breaks and blues records, with hot jazz guitar by Armond and sublime chanteuse vocals from Kathrin deBoer, Belleruche offer a jazzier, more laidback experience. The sound of "if Django Reinhardt and Cut Chemist got stuck in a lift with hundreds of records," apparently, but it earned them their weekly residency at the Salmon & Compass in Islington.
Joining resident VJ Myogenic on visuals this time out are Handmaid, and Breakin Even's own Squiff VT, and playing records around our guests as ever will be resident DJs alanM and Peepshow Paddy.
