Mach V (aka Mark van der Vord)
Mach V has been mixing vinyl, tape, DVD and CD into some classic mixes of drum and bass, ambient and breakbeat for over 7 years now. He's been a regular of many London clubs, playing at underground parties such as It & Foam, as well as established venues such as The O Bar and Yo! Below in Soho, The Junction, The Dogstar and The Telegraph in Brixton and having a show on one of London's oldest and respected Jungle pirate stations, Rude FM 88.2. Recently, he was lucky enough to play at the Big Chill's critically acclaimed Lulworth Castle festival.
Mach V's interest in the drum and bass genre was ignited when he bought a compilation album by mistake. "Where I was living at the time, you couldn't listen to records before you bought them," he states, "So when I got this one home I was in for a shock". The first tune on the compilation was JMJ & Richie's 'Universal Horn'. "I was dumb-struck", he says, "the tune seemed to be perfect in every way". A fellow DJ and ex-musical partner of Mach V's, DJ Fremin, pointed him towards the Good Looking and Moving Shadow labels; from that point on, it's been a love born of obsession.
Mach V's favourite musical style has been called 'liquid funk', 'intelligent' or the much-maligned 'Jump-Up' form of drum and bass, "I love mixing all aspects of Drum and Bass," he affirms. "But making people dance and feel good is what it's all about". Mach V often tag-teams with DJ Dr Jamie 'mixing with the dark side' at parties throughout London. "It allows me to flex muscles I didn't know I had!" he remarks.
He can mostly be found in his Brixton Hill retreat with his beautiful wife and quality controller Miko, trying to get their cat Dierdre to make tea.
